Cinefeast sits down for a little dulce, and a conversation with
Director Nicholas Iacovino.
Cinefeast: So after Once a Garden you're back with a new Independent
feature film,
Au Revoir My Paris Heart. What is this film about?
Nicholas Iacovino: This film is different than any of my other films,
which have all taken place in New York City. But like Once a Garden
if concerns itself with love and loss. Au Revoir My Paris Heart also
considers provincial thinking, as well as mores ,and morals regarding
love, sex, commitment, and fidelity; that the lead character Steve
carries across the ocean with him, to Paris, where perhaps the views
are a little different. But in the end the film is about who we are and
what we share, rather than what may keep us apart. Perhaps it also
touches on a bit of the hostility between two nations that were great
allies in the past.
Cinefeast: You won the award for Best Director at the 2008
New York International Film and
Video Festival for Once a
Garden, what is the state of independent film?
Nicholas Iacovino: Independent film will always exist because
there will always be a story to be told,
that can be told without
the labyrinth of the major studio distribution system,
now more than ever through digital mediums.
Cinefeast: No more dailies and processing costs.
Nicholas Iacovino: Yes. And outlets for distribution are now available that did not exist when
we made Brunch at Martins in 1993. Places like indie Flix, where Whoopi Goldberg serves on the board, that allows Indies to be seen via either DVD or streaming, though Indie Flix has now moved to solely streaming
content. Once a Garden was picked up by Indie Flix, and we were very happy about that.
Cinefeast: So are we.Thank you for sitting down with us.
Nicholas Iacovino: Thank you.
